STUDENT MEETS WITH
CONGRESSMAN COSTELLO IN WASHINGTON, D.C. Washington - Derrick C.
Cooper, Jr. met with U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) in his
Washington, D.C. office today. Derrick, a graduate of Belleville West
High School, was in our nation’s capital to participate in the U.S.
Presidential Scholars 2007 National Recognition Week activities.
Derrick was selected as a 2007 U.S. Presidential Scholar for the Arts.
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 by
executive order of President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded in 1979 to
recognize students who display outstanding artistic talent. “I
congratulate Derrick on being selected as a 2007 U.S. Presidential
Scholar for the Arts and wish him the best of luck in the future,” said
Costello.
